"Building a Health and Life Science Research  Consortium for Laboratory Exchange".

"Building a Health and Life Science Research  Consortium for Laboratory Exchange" project funded by the "Young Researcher Overseas Visits Program for Vitalizing Brain Circulation" program (Funding Program for World-Leading Innovative R&D on Science and Technology(FIRST Program) by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science)

The "Building a Health and Life Science Research  Consortium for Laboratory Exchange" project was adopted by the "Young Researcher Overseas Visits Program for Vitalizing Brain Circulation" program (Funding Program for World-Leading Innovative R&D on Science and Technology (FIRST Program) by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science).  This project was proposed by the School of Science and Engineering, Waseda University.  Fifteen members including all the faculty members of this department run this project chaired by Prof. Takeoka.  Within the period from Nov. 2010 to Mar. 2013 fourteen young researchers

will visit four foreign institutes.  The laboratory exchange style distinguishes this project, in which the young scholars keep their belonging to the original laboratory during the exchange periods, thus problems arising from financial or patent issues will be much reduced.  Visiting researchers set up WASEDA laboratories in the partner institutes and carry out international collaborative researches.

Within the fiscal year of 2011 collaboration frameworks will be established in the following institutes in Europe, U.S.A and Asia:  The International School of Doctorate on Innovative Technologies at the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies (IIT@SSSA), Waseda BioScience Research Institute in Singapore (WABIOS), Life and Medical Sciences Center (LIMES), University of Bonn, and Medical School, UCLA.  An exchange laboratory is also established in TWIns of Waseda Univ. to which young scientists will visit from the foreign institutes.

This project will finally establish a domestic research network as well and build a large-scale health and life science consortium served by Waseda Univ, which will actively stimulate technology transfer to enterprises and feedback outcomes of the health and life science research to the society.
