New method improves efficiency of shRNA screening

A group of researchers, including Professor Youichi Nakao and Doctor Daisuke Arai from Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, came up with a new method that improves the efficiency of short-hairpin RNA (shRNA) screening, which identifies biochemical interactions that produce pharmacological effects (known as mechanisms of action). Using this method, they found the gene that regulates cytotoxicity by aurilide B, a natural marine product that induces apoptosis, or programmed death of cells. <More>
