A new method of measuring the spatial distribution of the electron in the molecule is developed.

Hiroshi Niikura associate professors of Waseda University advanced reason Department of Engineering developed a new method of the electron's that existed in the molecule measuring what space you were distributed as part of the JST problem solution type base research.

The molecule consists of two or more atomic nuclei and electrons, and the electron on a molecular inside exists in the space around the atomic nucleus in the existing probability that is according to the energy (molecular orbitals). As for the shape of the spatial distribution of molecular orbitals (symmetry and note 1) and the extensions, it has a big influence on how to advance, selectivity, and optical physical properties etc. of the chemical reaction, and various physicss and chemical phenomena are explained based on the character of molecular orbitals. Therefore, it is expected that it not only becomes a basic technology of a state-of-the-art measurement in the materials science but also is useful for development and the drug development etc. of the material with a new function to observe molecular orbitals and the change directly.
