Optimal operations, control, and planning for advanced smart grids.

Hayashi,Yasuhiro Doctor of Engineering

In pursuit of these goals, my laboratory seeks to propose new and advanced schemes for smart grid operations, control, and planning to maintain the quality and reliability of the power supply; to reduce power losses and CO2 emissions; and to conserve energy, based on optimal methods and a scaled-down smart grid equipment configuration we call ANSWER (for Active Network Systems With Energy Resources), as shown below. This equipment features AVR, transmission line voltage control equipment (LRT, SVR, and SVC), seven distribution lines with sectionalizing switches, 18 single-phase constant impedance loads, five inverters modeled as RES/loads, program control equipment, and digital measuring instruments. Sectionalizing switch states (open or closed), transmission line voltage profiles (tap position), load profiles, and output of RES can be flexibly controlled based on time-series data, making it easy to check the validity of the new advanced smart grid operations based on an optimal radial electrical network configuration and by applying optimal voltage control to ANSWER. Experimental results confirm that we can maintain the reliability of the power supply and power quality and reduce losses and CO2 emissions using the proposed scheme for advanced smart grid operations, control, and planning with the RES, EV, storage battery, FC, and HP are connected to the grid.
